Optical Laboratory Technician

Duties and Responsibilities: Optical Laboratory Technicians are the ones who fit the lenses into frames and make glasses that are prescribed. They are specialists when it comes to putting them together and cleaning. Many of them have their own stores.

Salary: $15,000 - $20,000

Education: To start off you will need a high school diploma or GED. The training lasts about six months to a year and is offered by many vocational schools and community colleges and you can even get on-the-job training, by some at stores.

 


Reflection: I don’t think I would like to have this career because I don’t find it interesting. It also isn’t what I like.

Clinical Laboratory Specialists

Duties and responsibilities: Clinical Laboratory Specialists are both Clinical Laboratory Technicians and Clinical Technologists. They both work in the laboratory to identify, diagnose, and treat diseases. They use a lot of different equipment and also collect blood samples for different reasons.

Salary: $20,000 - $28,000 (Clinical laboratory technicians) $25,000 - $40,000 (Clinical technologists)

Education: To become a laboratory technician you will need an associate’s degree in the field or complete training. To become a clinical technologist you will need a bachelor’s degree however some employers accept an associate’s degree and clinical experience.
 

Reflection: I think that I would like to have one of these two careers because they seem interesting.

Dental Laboratory Technician


Duties and Responsibilities:

Dental laboratory technicians specialize in different areas of dental and orthodontic work. Their jobs usually include making and repairing dentures, crowns, and braces. They work in dental schools, commercial dental laboratories, hospitals, dental clinics, and for manufacturers of dental prostheses Denatal laboratory technicians:

·       Repair denture linings

·       Choose and mount replacement teeth.

·       Construct denture frames.

·        Identify needed prostheses repairs.

·       Make and fix braces.

·       Cast plaster dental molds.

·       Clean and polish prostheses.

Average Salary: $22,000-$33,000

Educational Requirements:

Dental laboratory technicians must have a high school diploma or GED certificate before starting dental laboratory training.

Dental laboratory technicians must attend a community college, vocational school, or dental school to learn their skills. Programs are usually two years in length.
